On the Beeb this morning it was suggested that Playboy (50th anniversary) was the most influential magazine of the 20th century - (they have the figures to prove it ?)

Those who don't know what Playboy is - like me - can play with their Googly thing until they find it.

I disagree. I think the Beano is far more influential. For example, Desperate Dan's invention of the Cow Pies, dubiously prepared using the contents of an entire cow in the front room, lead directly to the introduction of the Big Mac. Penthouse, for example, cannot claim any such invention, and bike sheds defnitely existed before 1953, although in those days they were used for bicycles, i think.

I think it might be interesting to check whether the rise of Penthouse over the years coincided with increased sales of spectacles to young males - to help them find their bikes in the sheds when they would check on them during break.

Desperate Dan

Surely DD was in the Dandy, not the Beano. Beano was Bash Street Kids, Minnie the Minx, Roger the Dodger, Billy Whizz, Dennis & Gnasher etc. Also Lord Snooty and his pals.

I know, I know - I'm a sad, pedantic git....................

In context joke

A young lad was playing with himself in the bedroom when his dad burst in;

"I'm telling you son", his Father proclaimed "you keep doing that and you'll go blind".

His Son replied: "I'm over here Dad"

Isn't that illegal in 49 States of the Union?
