YM question - You\'re in your open 60, 1k miles from land.....

.... trying to pick up a fellow racer in a liferaft as his open 60 has broken its keel and is sinking.

The seas are "interesting".

As you approach, the sheerpin on your prop shaft fails. You fix this. Then approaching again, your gear linkage fails, followed swiftly by the throttle linkage.

What do you do?

Turn over, it is only a nightmare caused by eating that whole stilton with your bedtime port.

Maybe you could just 'hang out' with said fellow racer for a week or two, even though you never especially liked each other....

Pop the dvd of the TV programme you thoughtfully recorded earlier into your on-board player and skip to the ending /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This isn't actually helping those of us that had to work through parts one and two , let alone three , I know the basic story but I'd like to hear what people would really have done , and the end result of what happened would be usefull , although I do know they're best friends now

So does mine , but without sky ( poor reception due to living in an orchard ) or cable ( not available in the middle of nowhere ) there are only five channels available for me to view

Freeview TV, not marine VHF dear boy /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Not sure your average marine vhf would do a great deal in the Southern Ocean where this happened, as you'd be to far away from anyone to communicate. You'd need SSB or Satellite

Canal Digital prices are not so bad and then you can get like + 250 channels /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

On a serious note, have you considered a digibox? If you can pick up five channels (which is one up on us with terrestrial) then you should be able to get digital. Which gives you enough channels to have the one showing the Golding/Thompson programme.

Re: YM question - You\'re in your open 60, 1k miles from land.....

I reckon whoever recorded the prog tonight could make a fortune flogging copies on YM forums to the poor heathens that havent got sky / cable /freeview
Im including myself in that insult by the way...

Re: YM question - You\'re in your open 60, 1k miles from land.....

I get signals bouncing round all over so I pick up three regions , but all badly due to the trees , so I don't think digital would help
The point I was trying to make though , is that a serious question that lots know the answer to was being laughed at , so not helping those of us that would like to know what people would do if it happened to them , not that I'll ever make that kind of trip but I am curious
