I’m in Cap Ferret, west of Bordeaux at the moment.
Yesterday the afternoon tide, at about 18.15 local time, was the highest ever that any of the locals could remember. We are currently half way between both lunar cycles, yesterday’s co-efficients were 77. It was pretty much bang on, time wise, with the lunar prediction.
What was driving the extraordinarily high tide????
Lots of clever people here…………. And was it the same up north in the channel???

I'm in Bilbao and just stepped off the boat onto the pontoon to go for some shopping. I walked down the gangway to the gate, normally you walk up. I thought that was strange.

Unusualy low air pressure?
I thought that so looked it up. At the time of the OPs experience, the air pressure at Bordeaux Airport (4th Aug at 1615UTC) was 1016 hpa which is slightly higher than a standard atmosphere (1013.25hpa) so it wasn't that.

The wind was easterly at 5kts so not that either.
