I took delivery of my boat last November and over the space of the summer ( brand new boat ) , yellow stains have been slowly appearing on the non slip areas of the deck. When I scrub with a proprietary deck cleaner they seem to fade then reappear by the next week. I've got two problems. What the hell are they and how do I get rid of them ?

Stop taking your dog sailing?

If the warranty period is just one year I would be notifying the dealer asap, but that needs to be done anyway Bill. If Dom is correct then it also sounds as though the expert opinion of a surveyor might be required at some stage as I can't imagine you would be satisfied with this on such a boat, might be worth crystalizing the situation sooner rather than later.

Sounds silly but are the stains in the same position and is there anyone near you using disel that could be blown? if not get hold of the dealer but with your quality of boat it should be OK

Courtesy is an iota but makes the world go round

It could be the releasing wax that they used prior to applying the gell coat to the mould. However my boat now 3 years old did not suffer from yellowing although the releasing wax did tend to attract dirt in patch's.

The fact that it cleans off tends to make me think its airborne contaminents sticking to the wax. But best bet is to log this as a fault in writing with the agent straight away just in case there is a real problem.

Re: Agent\'s reply

Hi,
I think I have the same problem with a new boat, what did the agent supply in the end? Also, did it actually work ans solve the problem?

Re: Agent\'s reply

I was supplied with Styrene which you apply with a paintbrush and then wash off with fresh water. Funnily enough I notice from your profile that your boat was built by Nimbus . My boat , a Maxi , was built by the same company. Coincidence ?

Re: Agent\'s reply

Thanks for that Bill, yes it is interesting about the link. My previous Nimbus had the same problem, but I never solved it on that one.

An article in Motor Boats Monthly a couple of months ago covered this problem. I think it might have been the November issue (sorry can't find my copy). Pls advise if your solution clears the problem for good.
