Duty on Red Diesel up by >50% too.

That will add almost £1 to my annual boating costs.

Even though he may have announced getting rid of 40000 inland revenue jobs I'm sure you'll find that even after that reduction there will be more people in that department than when the government came to power in 1997.

....probably to be replaced by a computer system which will take 5 years longer than planned to implement, cost 10 times the original budgettary estimate upon which the Chancellor based his assumptions. Or am I just being synical?

I actually found the redundancies in the Department for Work and Pensions more amusing (i.e. the people who run the Job Centres)

They'll still find a way of making it look like the number of jobless is going down.

Sorry to provide the cloud for your silver lining...
He also said he would amalgamate the Inland Revenue with Customs and Excise. Call me a cynic... but will this new super-department keep the Customs' Crown Powers?
Customs have wide ranging powers of Rummage...entry and seizure... far more than any other Government department including the police.
Of course, I could be wrong and the new department will be relinquishing its special power over us.

Yeh right!

Not if you\'re a..

civil servant there isn't.

Clip clop - up on my hobby horse.

Why should all these jobs move out of the South East?...."To the benefit of the regions" as he said. Not to the benefit of the SE though, or those poor sods who are already pissed off with facing the chop for years on end.

Once again, as I've said before - if you come from the South or South East - you're a non-person - not to be included in the collective "we" which refers to all other parts - although mostly the North.

Strange that this should be so..considering where most of the bloody government come from.

Re: Where most of the government comes from

Hi Ken

Interesting post. Is this an extensive list - or are there more?

As you know though, my concern is for the ordinary people involved. My mate works over at Titchfield. To say he's been beowned off for the last umpteen years is an understatement - constant threat of cuts, redundancy, moving to unconscienable places, constant pointless name changes and initiatives.

Re: Where most of the government comes from

Jeff,

That's it* as far as Govt appts from the Commons go. I didn't check the Lords.

* There's also Advocate General for Scotland Dr Lynda Clark QC MP (Edinburgh Pentlands), but as that a Scottish appt, I didn't include it.

Re: Not if you\'re a..

Personally I think these jobs should move out the SE for the benefit of the SE. The area is well overpopulated with infrastructure bursting at the seams. Try and buy a house .. unless you've a joint salary in excess of 6 figures its a major financial risk impinginging on the quallity of life in all other areas. My heart goes out to young couples embarking on life together. Personally I've always thought Govt should be situated in Birmingham or Manchester and thus not perceived to be remote. If that had been the case I doubt if the SNP would ever have gained much ground or the current scottish parliament would exist.

I agree entirely

Move UK govt to Great Sodding in the Wold. Then London can declare itself a city state (like Monaco) and get rid of 47m parasites.

PS. Ray Davies for president, Waterloo Sunset as national anthem.
