Fire extinguishers are okay, flares are just okay, haven't practiced MOB for a while though, fancy a swim?

Hmm... done an MOB practise end last year. Flares in Date, LR in date. FE's err they are a little outside the date... must replace those.

Biggest safety addition I have made this season is a bilge alarm and BIG extra pump in the engine bay. After finding that the std one was no more than a shower drain pump (and manual back up) and only worked via the auto switch when the electrics were all livened up. ie when we were actually using the boat. Otherwise, it did not operate. Now have the new BIG pump wired direct to the batt bank and have added another batt as well.

I got this idea from this forum having listened to seveal flooded engine bay stories!

I check the old flares in November

swmbo did the MOB drill on Saturday

I checked Fire Extinguishers last week.

Checked Air con gas on Friday pm

Checked Calor gas bottle Saturday am

Checked Battery water level Friday pm

Checked beer sell by Saturday night

Checked pack of 3 use by date Sunday morning

I've examined my flares and found them about ten years out of date. But I don't use them often and have no idea what to do with them. They look a bit dangerous.

I collected my big fender back with about a five knot tide, last week. All on my own, so guess thats the MOD for this year.

fireworks past their best, 1 out of 5 extinguishers in date, life jackets all good to go,fire blanket in date,wob exercise canceled due to water temp too cold, she said.

trip to force 4 is needed methinks, or does anyone know a very good value for money fire protection and pyrotechnics vendor?

Bought new set of flares on sunday,
got some to dispose of where is the best place ?

Was reading about that in the chandlers the other day, used to be th RNLI would dispose of them, but they dont want to know now evidently, and the suggestion was to take them to where you buy your new flares from. Evidently its now an offence to carry out of date flares on board. Maybe health and safety issue, as theyre classified as explosives. I cant make out what the difference is whether theyre old or new they could still go bang.

There was talk

of introducing a system, of when you got new flare they gave you a voucher for a flare disposal, I do hope it takes off, a possible other option is, to ask a school that does use flares in there courses if they would take them , but they will have to be in date just.

You can get them serviced, they check them and refill as long as it will hold the pressure. or you can buy a new one, but change like for like as they all have different jobs depending on where on the boat they are.

Do a googal search on servicing the make you have.

Just like life jackets . LOL

Read the label. The supplier may recharge it. Noone else will.

Fire extinguishers in date and inspected - engine bay extinguisher due for replacement due end of next year - i feel on of those halon replacement posh jobs looming!

No recent MOB practice though I'll make the effort to.
