We are going off tomorrow morning planning to stay over on boat for the next three days, never been to Yarmouth or Newtown, Studland too far or we would have loved to have gone to the forum BBQ. What's it like for overnighting at these two places? Food, pub, mooring, tides etc...............

Newton is self sufficiency. Quiet creek, no facilities. Anchor up and enjoy. If you have a keel, you'll want to do some tide calculations

Yarmouth is a lovely location, but no marina. Lots of places to eat,, and shower facilities, but you'll have to harbour taxi between berth and facilities. All states of tides. Will be very busy, so you'll have to get there early afternoon to stand a chance of a spot.Visitor moorings outside as well, but they are equally busy, and suffer from Solent swell

Studland isn't far for power or saily types. If you want an escort, I'll be coming out of Lymington early afterrnoon for Studland.

Thanks a lot for that Brendan, looks like Newtown is a no-no as we draw 1.7m. Yarmouth sounds fine, we could dinghy ashore. Hopefully we will be out by noon tomorrow, need a chart from swindlery for the area west of Needles, the thought of an escort is a lovely/tempting idea, have pm'd moby numbers to you.

P.S
Would we have have all sail available up, plus engine to keep up with you???

Do not be put off Newtown at 1.7m you will have no problem unless you go in at low water springs and even then it is accessible if you are careful.
I have gone in there regularly with 1.9m draught even at LW springs. If you follow the leading marks in to the narrow entrance, then use your depth sounder keep close to the West shore you will have no problem, especially with the tides this weekend. After entering the creek, leave the two green piles to starboard, then take the right fork down newtown River to the visitors moorings, you will have plenty of water here overnight. Alternatively turn left into Clamerkin Lake. At LWS it is possible to ground here, though it is very soft mud. There are visitors moorings up here and it is possible to anchor anywhere there is room and water.

There is a pub if you are feeling energetic, and dont mind taking the dinghy to shalfleet quay. and walking half a mile though you need to check your tides for this as it dries.
