Sat I'm in Yarmouth... Lookin' for a meal for 12... Checked old thread ( Best view in Yarmouth)..
Looks from this thread to be a choice between Sain Ellins or Fenders...
Had a chat with the George very helpful e mailed me a menu But they charge extra for vegs, which makes me pi****d off, and them a bitty OTT..
Poyal Solent is booked solid with RNVR
Wheatsheaf got bad press in 2004 is it better now?
Bugle was fined £5000 + costs in 2004 !!
Has any one any quick comments to make??????
Await wive everthing baited!!!
Cheers BobE...

Fenders appears to have closed. We have had a good meal in Sian Elins or, alternatively, try the Kings Head. I have always found the food in the Kings Head to be consistently good and promptly served. I'm sure if you rang now you could reserve one of the little eating areas without too much trouble.

Wheatsheaf has been preferred for pub nosh by us the last couple of years. Have never eaten in the Bugle, not ever been tempted but what on earth, may I ask, did they do to get fined £5000 + costs?

Wheatsheaf serves good quality, good value pub grub. My favoured place in Yarmouth. I've eaten there 4/5 times this year and always had good food.

Yup - Wheatsheaf is where we're going back too ... went beginning of Sept - quick good nosh.... and not too expensive.

Hayles told me once that locals prefer the Kings Head and we thought it was OK too. However the comment also was 'out of season' 'cos it was too noisy/crowded otherwise, we have only used it early/late season and eat early too.

The George has a smarty restaurant and a Bistro but both need a 2nd mortgage. We tried the Bistro once for a special meal and it was OK but memorable for the price rather than the quality (close to £100 for 2 with wine, drinks and tip).

If we were seriously looking for a good meal that was affordable or at least justified the high price tag then I'm afraid it would not be in Yarmouth. Lymington IMO has better options.

For pub food, the Wheatsheaf has changed ownership in the past couple of years and got an internal makeover last year which has brightened it up considerably, but not to everyone's liking. The food is good and, more importantly perhaps, consistently so, and it's our normal lunch spot in Yarmouth. The King's Head is excellent for good, plain food after a long sail.

We ate at the Bugle once. Never again.

Sian-Elins is in a different league, both in terms of price and quality - but it's a restaurant, not a pub. One of my favourite eateries. Salty's (next door) is also good, particularly if you like fish. The George is expensive, but very good.

Extraordinary, btw, that there are several really good places to eat in Yarmouth, and almost none in Cowes.

Hallo Bob - long time no see/hear. Time for a beer, I feel?
with regard to Yarmouth eateries, I've always found the King's Head to be very good and excellent value - a pub with room and one or two secluded corners with good size tables. Like others here, I've also enjoyed Salty's and have heard very good repots of Sian Elins, though it's normally been a bit too smart for me in "sailing mode"!
Keep in touch about the beer.

Actually Bob, they have all got plenty of spare tables for the night you require, but they operate one of those PubWatch schemes. Its where one pub gets an undesirable customer, they let the others know pretty quickly, so he ends up banned from them all.

Your reputation goes before you, I'm afraid to say! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We usually eat in the Kings Head, where the food varies from OK to excellent, usually with enormous portions as well.
Tried the Bugle for the first time this summer, food was good, as was both the beer and cider but it has obviously been recently done up and resembles a brightly lit restaurant rather than a proper pub.
Also ate in the George once, a while ago. Very good, but I would hope so at that price.
A couple of years ago our owners' association had a meal at the place in Fort Victoria (can't recall the name). Food was ok, staff friendly etc. On the down side the decor etc. was basic and its a long walk back to the boat in the dark.

We tend to like the Kings Head, OK not Eggo Rony, but good food, never been dissapointed. It also looks like a pub, if we want to eat in a resturant then thats were we go. The other pubs have in my opinion lost a bit of direction. We ate at the Bugle earlier this year and you could have been sat anywhere. Sorry for me its lost it way.

I'm not surprised that Fenders has closed, its a shame, but the last time we went there, went to order puds' and they had run out of syrup sponge, that is unforgivable, financial disaster can only follow.

Wheatsheaf now owned by the same people as the Anchor in Cowes and is pitching for the yachtie market. Was in the Kings Head a couple of months ago and wasn't up to much. Bugle has improved since it was done out. The Indian round the corner from Harwoods was getting good reports a while back.

Well in point of fact SWMBO knocks up a decent supper so we can always eat on board, we use those meat pies, come in a tin, name escapes me for the minute though /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
