Hi, I remember reading a well researched post, with pictures about replacing the LCD hour meter on a VDO tacho on a Yanmar switch panel.
I bought the recommended new LCD at the time, and it has been on the chart table, ready to be fitted since then, but sailing has always taken precedent, some may not find that surprising.
Now with the enforced absence of sailing, and re-discovering the part, I thought I attempt the repair, however, I can find the original post with the instructions.
I've search the internet, but can only find, a video on cleaning the contacts of the silicone, which appears to become conductive with age.
Can anyone point me to the original post?
Cheers
Ian

Thanks, I found that one, but was put off because it's a Volvo Penta version, and it's all about refitting a new ribbon cable.
I have complete new LCD, with the cable attached, so it's not that relevant.
And, the construction of the taco is different, you can't unscrew the bezel to remove the transparent plastic cover. I'm also unsure about the internal structure which look different.
The post I remember has photographs rather than a video, and was, if I remember correctly, posted by a member of the forum.

The AKspeedo website has a video
with the instructions for fitting a LCD with cable to a Yanmar (VDO) tacho. Did mine a couple of months ago, all worked perfectly. My Yanmar one was exactly as shown.

If there are doubts about DIY, then I believe AK Speedo offer a replacement service?

My philosophy. As a first-timer, it looks like a fiddly job with potential to end in tears. Conversely, for someone who has done it dozens of times, it’s a piece of cake.

I sent mine to AK. Very approachable and friendly. It was done and returned in a couple of days for around £60.

Thanks for all the replies.
My usual strategy is the trawl for all the guidance and information I can find, with google and sites like this.
I mull it all over, selecting all the bits of info' which seem relevant to the task in hand and then have go.
Before I post on here, I've normally done quite a through search, however, this site has such an enormous reservoir of experience, of all thing related to "make and mend" around boats, of all shapes and sizes, that it's worth posting a relatively open question, in the hope that it will turn up a nugget of info' which changes my approach to the problem, and it's amazing how often that happens.
Thanks for your help.

I saved the original article as a p d f. It is detailed and called Repair of Yanmar Hour Meter and hails from November 2012 . Send me a p.m. with your email and I will forward it to you ( and others if they wish)
