Hi,

Our Yanmar 1GM10 is a bit smokey at pretty much all throttle settings. It is a grey/white smoke. The engine seems to be fine otherwise, good rev'splenty of power etc. Is this likely to be the injector is there something else. The engine is a 1989 and has always been serviced.

Any help would be appreciated.

Andy

There is a good Yanmar forum here. If you go back through the posts you may even find the answer to your query straight away.

diagnosis from a distance is always unreliable, but the engine shouldnt smoke. suggest you cantact your nearest agent.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies, I filled up with clean fuel and beld the system as well as making sure there were no air leaks in the fuel system. It all seems fine now and only smokes when you use too much throttle, i.e when the engine is at max revs and you add more throttle.

My engineer says that the commonest cause for smoking Yannies is a constricted exhaust elbow. As it is probably the easiest to check this is perhaps a good place to start.

the elbow is one thing to watch. it can fail at the water injection point, causing water to splash back into the head as the engine stops, in turn leading to corrosion of the heaf. or at least this was the tale i was given when my 2gm expired in a cloud of white smoke.
