When I change oil filters on my 3YM30 very little oil leaks out. The filter is side mounted so I assume that there is no valve in the filter housing and the oil drains back to the sump. I have bought a generic (Baldwin) filter but am concerned there may be a non return valve which will cause a load of oil to run down the engine side when I change the filter. Can anyone advise?

FFR-PH4998 ?? If so yes it has an anti-drainback valve.

Maybe you are concerned about nothing though.

put something underneath if possible and some absorbent rag to catch what misses the "something" Protect the engine mounts if necessary.

You could always buy the genuine Yanmar filter of course it's only a few quid dearer

Good website for oil filters ... everyone should bookmark that

I use baldwin now on a 1gm10. They are a well respected make and match all the internal component specs of the Yanmar filter.

After a lot of reading up on filtration - Fleetguard came out as one of the best - and have a very useful technical dept - which actually answers the phone and wants to help you !

Try doing a Honda Accord - laid on your back with the filter above your nose ! Best way there is a poly bag too - but over your head not the filter !
