Does anyone have any info to pass on about Yanmar diesels, good or bad?

I am in the process of putting together the bits for a new semi-displacement boat and for diesels of about 250hp there is nothing as light /compact as the yanmars from what I've seen.

I have a single 230hp in my boat - but only 50hrs since Easter launch.
When the turbo comes in the engine sings.

Currently have 1st service and being repropped (coarser pitch) and will put back in over the weekend of 20 July.

Boat's in Poole - welcome to have a look if you are in the area.

regarding lightwight diesels, Steyr (via mermaind marine) make a 212hp 6 that's the lightest in it's class- certainly lighter than an equivalent yanmar.

Yanmars, a nice compact well thought out diesel, and quite a bit quieter and livelier than your average, from what ive seen fuel economy is good too. Yanmar make a 6 cylinder 250hp model and coupled with a 'ZF Hurth HSW630 A' gear box its a nice setup. I have installed quite a few and am suitibly impressed you wont go to far wrong!!
