Hi - need the belt size for a 2gm20 raw water - can't find it anywhere in the forums or Google! Need to pick a new one up before getting to marina...

That's a good point, what are the sizes for the 2GM20F version please? Any product suggestions other than specific Yanmar OEM belts?

I have the info somewhere at home I think as I had a 2GM previously. Best thing to do is take the old belt to a car parts place and compare. That's what I did for the 3GM I have now. What I actually ended up doing was getting the correct match (for pennies) and also one about 15mm longer which made it ten times easier to fit and still allowed full adjustment well within the travel of the alternator arm.

Hubby got a set of belts from the local belt and bearing stockists... He even rebuilt the raw water pump for the cost of a few pints of beer. A new Yanmar one is hundreds....
There is always someone local who stocks bearings and belts.

I use Mitsubishi M-19 and M-31 belts (instead of Yanmar parts) for my 2GM20 for many years.
Bought from metal shop in HK, and they are only 3.0 GBP each.
I always keep a set of spare belts on the boat.

Here's a 'cutting' from my Notes for my boat, which has a 3GM30F, but most of these items (including the belts) are the same for the 2GM20. The only exception is the water pump, which varied Johnson & Jabsco even between the same models

Engine Oil Filter: Cooper Z1142, Fram PH6811, Solid Ace H102003 Knecht OC115.
Water Pump Impeller: Has keyway (not screw) Johnson 827, Yanmar 23007-4133 (?) Jabsco 22799-0001B
W/Pump Belt: 482 x 10 (Yanmar 104511-78780)
Alternator Belt: L 970 cm x W13 mm. Yanmar 25132-003700, Gates 6218MC (950x10)
Fuel Filter: Yanmar 104500-55710. AC Delco GF771.
Coopers FSM4110. In-Line Filters FBW-PF937. UFI 2667200.
Air Filter: Yanmar 128270-12540.

Hope this helps

Hi

I see this thread is a bit old. Still, if someone, like me, finds it and reads it, it could be important that the info is correct.

Regarding the alternator belt, if the Yanmar original size is 13mm width by 970mm length. Then it is a bad idea to replace with a belt that is only 10mm wide, as it will slip very easy and have little or no margin for wear. The correct Gates alternative would be their 13x975 belt, or possibly 13x950. They should both fit.
I recently swapped my belt for one that I had laying in the boat, so I'll double check the dimensions of that one to make sure, and then I'll go with the Gates 13x975 to have as a spare for next time.

Samething with using M19 belts, from what I can find on the web, it's a 10mm wide belt. If Yanmar original is 13mm, then M19 is also not a good choice.

Correct belt widht is important for proper operation and longevity, exact belt length is less important, as the generator can be adjusted a bit.

Old thread but still a lot of 2GM20 owners so stays relevant:
The water pump belt is indeed replaceable with M19 (although 9.5mm wide instead of 10mm). For the alternator belt I use a generic A950 or A31. The A-type is 13mm wide and that's according to the original one. Both sizes are also widely found on AliExpress.

If you do take the old yanmar belt to a motor factors then be aware that some yanmar belts are labelled with the exterior length rather than the interior or vice versa and the factors might not notice the Li thing on the end of the size.
