There’s a wide variety of sea water pump impellers on eBay for my 3gm30f, with various part numbers. Will my old one have a part number on it? I’m guessing not, and if so, anyone care to suggest which one I need?

It depends on the pump fitted as they were not all fitted with the same pump. Mine is a Johnson pump and from memory, requires an 810B impeller.

Identify the pump or better still take the old impeller out.

Not sure with yanmar but with Volvo when the part comes packaged or a part normally sold with a gasket for example the part inside usually has a different number stamped on rather than the number in the catalogue

I think that a main Yanmar dealer can check your engines serial number to see where / when the unit was made and which pump was fitted.

But removing the old one is the best option.

Yes
Yes, the pump model is on the faceplate of the pump. But i'm pretty sure that its a standard part number per the Yanmarshop online parts list here FIG 33. COOLING SEA WATER PUMP Schematic

Then buy 2 as oldharry says. One to use now, one 'just in case' and for the next service. You soon build up a stock of decent quality impellers that you take out at your annual service and stick in the 'just in case' box. In eight years of annual services I've not had one come out looking like it hasn't got years of service left in it still.
