Yanmar 1gm10 fuel filter stuck!

I have read about and tried the screwdriver taps, and I tried a strap wrench, but with the latter I had no luck due to the tiny room.

It took forever to get the new primary fuel filter (2 or so months!!!) but I also need to replace the yanmar one.


What can I do? I have little room and I start chipping the ring instead of moving it, can't destroy it.

I am swearing like a sailor over this one. Ugh.

Anyone?

This may sound daft, but are you turning the ring the right way? Clockwise, looking from the top.

Definitely check you are turning the right way as Porthand buoy said. I put an arrow on mine to remind me as it is not obvious.
Ideally you need a C spanner.

You can get cheaper individual ones that only fit one size. I have one like the above in my boat toolbox.

the operators manual confuses the issue by saying loosen counter-clockwise

Also if you still have problems unbolt the two banjos and then the filter bracket has two small bolts, then do it on the bench, filters hard to seat and get the bowl back sometimes

Normal loosening direction of the ring is



If uncertain it might help to hold a bolt or screw upside down and notice the direction unscrewing it

The lock ring does not need to be tight, the o ring on the bowl dose the sealing and this is a few mm down from the rim so over tightening does nothing

I had the same issue. The way it’s designed is misleading regarding thread direction.

Yeah, I was trying to screw it the wrong way. But once you made the mistake you will rememebr for the rest of your life hahahaha (please don't tell my friends)

I'm not familiar with the orientation of the 1gm10 but that sounds wrong to me. It's almost certainly a right hand thread and lefty loosy is correct as previously said.

You are quite correct: Right hand thread . . . from underneath.

The thing is, the ring is on the top, but the confusing bit is that it unscrews towards the bottom.

Well, I know you guys think germans sound aggressive when we talk normally. Now imagine us swearing. The little ring basically jumped off on it's own, still shaking with nightmares
