very big target....

I was lucky to look around the Enterprise, (a long time ago), and it was the most unbelievable experience. Racial segregation, armed guard for the 1st LT and graffiti....bit of a culture shock!

my father served on the USS Randolph in the vietnam era, he maintained that there were sections of the ship that senior officers woulod not venture into without an armed guard and that there were ghettos on the ship.

Does anyone know what time she's due in tomorrow ? I'm in Southsea Marina right now, and tempted to stay on board another night to see her come in... Looking at the tides, I'd guess she'll be through the forts by 1130 ish ??

very big target....

All the grey funnel line are known as targets, but although described as pirates we no longer fly the jolly roger.;)

Admiral of the Fleet Sir Arthur Wilson VC, the Controller of the Royal Navy, summed up the opinion of many in the Admiralty at the time when he said in 1901 "[Submarines are] underhand, unfair, and damned un-English. ... treat all submarines as pirates in wartime ... and hang all crews."[19][20] In response, Lieutenant Commander (later Admiral Sir) Max Horton first flew the Jolly Roger on return to port after sinking the German cruiser SMS Hela and the destroyer SMS S-116 in 1914 while in command of the E class submarine HMS E9

From the BBC report:
Businesses in Portsmouth are gearing up for the arrival of more than 5,000 US Navy sailors in the city.

Queues at the Temperance Halls and FairTrade Bookshops, I imagine...
