The impellor seems to have gone and the gearbox won't drop - seems seized to the engine.

Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

I take it that your engine has no gear shift that's got to be disconnected,

Most likely thing is that the drive shaft splines are stuck in the crankshaft. Progressively more persuasion is the only way as far as I know.

Drive shaft is all one piece, you need to open the gearbox, remove the circlip and split at the crown gear at the bottom of shaft.

I have just done this on two of these units. There are 3 causes of the gear box not droping;

The copper pipe that runs from the pump to the head is stuck to the gromit in the water pump.

The drive shaft is stuck to the crankshaft - this is a square drive

The locating pins on the gearbox are stuck into the locating holes .

Try taking the 6 bolts that hold the head on - they are underneath. both of mine came off without problems. You can then unhitch the cold water feed pipe from the leg/head water way. This will also detach the head from the drive shaft.

That only leaves you to separate the gearbox from the leg.

If you have to renew any of the oil seals or the cup where the impeller sits send me a pm as there is an easy way to replace these (and a hard way).
