Hi there,
I’ve been trying to decide if a jet of water coming out about halfway down the shaft of the outboard is a problem or not but the tricky thing is that the relevant section doesn’t seem to be identified in the exploded diagrams on the manufacturer's parts list.
I think the section I am referring to might be called the pivot (?). Its where the higher part of the shaft meets the lower part and on the join there is a black plastic or rubber seal or spacer?
My question is basically does anyone know what that part is where the water is coming through and if there are service parts to fix it?
(Even better of course if it turns out that water is actually supposed to come out from there and its not a problem of course…)
I couldn’t find anything online or in manuals etc about water coming out from here.
I will post a picture if I ever manage to shrink it sufficiently..
Cheers

I think you are looking at water being blown out of the exhaust back pressure relief port. just below the bottom swivel.

Not familiar with your Yamaha but some motors blow out more water than others.

Maybe you can find a youtube video that shows it.

I take it that it is peeing normally from the telltale.

Thanks a lot VicS.
I attach a photo of where the water and warm air (exhaust I assume) are spitting out shrunkyamobimgserver.jpg
Apparently the relief valve is a lot higher up the shaft - above the higher of the two pivots and this spitting is occurring at the lower of the pivots.
I think it must be something to do with exhaust and water being forced out but I am struggling with whether it matters or if to just leave it. The water is coming out strongly from the telltale and the engine is actually running smoothly.
To get properly inside here to have a look does involve an alarming amount of stripping down so I'm hoping its just one of those things...thoughts?
Cheers

I'm not sure why water and exhaust gas are coming out of there.

The relief port which I thought you might have been looking at is just below the steering friction adjuster. Described in some manuals at the "idle hole". Check that is not blocked .

May be the bottom swivel bearing is worn ???

I think I might be tempted to remove the back half of the swivel housing to inspect the swivel bearings and to take a look for for anything else amiss. The two halves are only held together by 6 screws although it looks as though the friction adjuster will also have to be removed.
