Yamaha diesels 165hp

Seem to remember tales of spares availability being a problem, lengthy delays in sourcing engine mounts a while ago. Worthwhile checking you have dealer not to far away.?
Whatever your complaint with VP there is always a dealer on every street corner.

Hi

Please can I have views on the Yamaha 165hp diesels with matching drives? Engines in question are year 2000.

Thanks in advance.
You are referring to the 370sti with the hydra glide leg. Fantastic but of kit! Based on. 4 cylinder Toyota bus engine, it will (assuming looked after) will run for ever.

I put one in my Fairline Sprint which I bought 2nd hand with 640 hours. They don't make them for marine use anymore but they are the dogs danglies! Beat Volvo and Metcruider into a cocked hat! Oh, I like them by the way.

good engines & drives but out of production for a few years now so I'd expect parts to become an issue in the future

shame as they were a good product & fairly simple & robust

not that i know anything about these engines and even less about outdrive legs (and intend keeping it that way) , but I saw a couple of years ago a boat with a pair of Yamaha outdrives which were plastic casings, I must say i thought that a stroke of genius... although I have actually no idea if they were any good..

As has been said, Yamaha engines and drives are good bits of kit. The drives are no longer produced because they couldn't build them to a price that the market was prepared to pay.

Redbay boats in Co Antrim have the last of the new legs and have a lot of spares from older drives. My understanding is that Hyundai have introduced a drive that fits the Yamaha engine....no idea how good they are.
