Having got the outboard off the boat I now need to service it or get it serviced. In 2019 it was still under warranty and I paid a dealer to service it £184.03 plus VAT £160 labour which I guess was 2 hours labour plus oil, a sparkplug and gear lube. Ouch! I don't pay much more than that for my 4X4. Has anyone downloaded or bought a service manual for one of these please if so where from? I am looking of recommendations or links, I have done the usual searches

It is a bit of a performance getting it off safely 43Kgs in a well and 2m up.

The basic owners manual is free from the Yamaha US site here, for more in-depth stuff the haynes manual may help(not much has changed since 2013), but from memory they aren't that much more detailed due to covering such a wide range of engines. They're best for stuff not covered at all by the owner's manual, when rebuilding the powerhead or putting new seals in gearboxes etc.

Do you need a manual to service it? Change engine oil, change gearbox oil, fuel filter, plugs, impeller. Valve clearances on my older 9.9 are 0.15mm for inlet and 0.2mm exhaust and I would hazard a guess yours is the same- but it’s rare that mine ever need doing.

That hand-truck with the piece of 2x4 looks remarkably similar to what I use to store my Yamaha 9.9!
Sorry, bought it second-hand from a now-defunct organisation, with no manual or any other documentation.
Thanks for opening this thread as it has pointed me in the direction of a manual.

Rightly or wrongly I am taking it to a local place that do outboards to have it serviced.
Would you replace the gear box oil seals as well. Engine is 5 years in use (on a sailing boat that we prefer to sail).

My Yam is from '79 and has the original seals. Changed the oil a couple of years ago and no water, so, as above, just change the oil and check it for emulsion or droplets of water.

Edit: That service price makes me want to get into the business
