I have had my 9.9 Yamaha High Thrust back to the dealer several times. After anywhere from one to two hours it will stop running. It is obviously flooded and I was told that I did not have the motor at a 90 deg. angle with the water and that was the problem. Took it out and did everything but measure 90 deg. Did it again. Something is causing the carburetor to flood. Anyone else have this problem or know the cause? The motor is only a year old!!!

It could be the float needle in the carburetor playing up and not stopping the fuel supply to the carburetor which will flood the engine . But this will be normally older engines and also it will flow petrol out of the carburetor over flow as well. It might be worth a look at to rule it out.

Jamie,

Thanks, I will pass that on to the dealer. I'm surprised that they didn't pick that up. They are supposed to be contacting Yamaha for a solution. Want a job with Yamaha? I think you could be first in line!!!

That diagnosis follows the previous one by a branch dealership they own that said they found a hole in the fuel line that must have been caused by a fish hook. Cost me about $225 for that answer. Oddly enough that meant that it wasn't covered by warranty. Also, the pump ball was hard!! Doesn't quite figure does it?

I am on Vancouver Island and I don't know what the laws are here. Tomorrow I put the pressure on the dealership to replace the motor or give me my money back and I'll go elsewhere. Five attempts is enough?
