Hi all, could anyone explain why the following could be happening. I recently bought a 17 foot Boston Whaler Montauk with a 70hp 4 stroke Yamaha outboard. The outboard is in fine condition with low hours and starts and performs perfectly until the other day when I took the kids fishing and idled. We idled for about 45 minutes with the forward gear just engaged from neutral and when we went to accelerate away she died out and wouldn’t start for about 30 minutes but then started up fine and ran well. I can’t find the reason for this anywhere and worry I’ve damaged the engine. I spoke to my outboard engineer and he said that this sort of engine isn’t designed for very low speed idling along. Could anyone please shed light on what could of happened. I’ve got a Honda auxiliary which I’ll use from now on for such things but would like to know as worried. Thank you for your help. J.
