Hi folks i might have a chance of buying one of these engines and i was looking for any advice/pointers about how good these engines are what problems to look out for?? Any info much appreciated.

Had one for 10 years
Ran it on 100 ter 1
Only did 10 min trips
Smoked less than me
Did 50 trips a year though, back an forth
Use 'premix' two stroke oil 'TCW 3' any brand

I dont think its a rebadged Tohatsu as suggested above but small Yamahas are generally decent engines.
As Kawasaki says they run on 100:1 fuel mix but dont skimp on the oil.
Fog it before storage because there so little oil in the fuel.
It would be wise to have it confirmed that we water pump impeller has been replaced recently... if its not been done in its life getting bolts undone can be tricky.

Mine's a '94 and still going strong..
I run it on 100:1, but as Vics says I use a slightly heavy hand when measuring the YamLube..
Only issue I had with mine was on the internal fuel tank which is made of mild steel and subject to corrosion along the bottom where the attachment lugs are situated... just look along the bottom of the fuel tank and the attachment bracket is easy to see.. at that age a litle bit of corrosion is going to be likely, on mine, it had resulted in a pin hole.. easily fixed but in the end I got a spare fuel tank on eBay for £20 ...

Ive got one of these. Its a great wee engine. I had a 5hp Mariner years ago that was exactly the same engine. Both were great, and never gave me any bother-EVER!

Cheers for the pointers folks. I went and bought it today looks in decent condition and starts effortlessly. Guy told me 100:1 ratio so ill stick with that. Now all i need is five bloody minutes to myself to get back up to see my little lady

many manufacturers ( re-badgers) went for 100>1 to make a sales pitch that the engines were clean running & not oily messy things.
Tohatsu who make most of the small engines, mine a 3.3hp 2 T was 25>1 run in 50>1 normal. This engine will run well be properly lubed.
