Just bought a secondhand Yam' 2hp, a couple of things to sort out on it, I thought I should change the impeller. Took the gearbox off, undid the impeller housing bolts & found the housing wont slide up the shaft!. Surely you dont have to take the gearbox apart to get the shaft out do you? Your advice will be most welcome!.

Next thing is the tickover, this wee beast seems to rev pretty fast & therefore would shoot off with me clinging on for dear life.....well ok not quite, but you get my drift. I can find a friction type screw which grips the throttle lever and a small screw below this, is this small one the idle adjuster ? .

One other thing which it doesn't have is a tell tale water jet, just a bit of water coming out of the exhaust on the leg, but not a great deal, this is what led me to check the impeller, other than that it seems a pretty good little engine, should get me around the moorings quite nicely.

I do not Know if this helps but many impellors are fitted in a housing on top of the gear box . To access you need to remove the lower part of the leg containing the Gearbox and the impellor housing should be next to the cooling water pipe . When removing the old impellor , Note the direction of rotation The old impellor should still trail its vanes even if it has worn out the nodes on the tips of the impellor .

Fairline Weekender with a Ford Diesel.
That sounds like a rare bird.
Does it have enough Umph?
I had a Mermaid version in a previous boat.
Good bit of kit, if not a bit noisy.
Cheers

< little Britain mode> yeah I know... </ little Britain mode>

I also cannot seem to pull the impeller housing off the driveshaft. I can't see any hold on the shaft. My next course was to take out the propeller boss and see if that holds the driveshaft in place - maybe a circlip in there. That should allow me to slide the shaft out of the lower casing, and then the impeller downwards off the shaft. Prepared for thick stinky oil everywhere next!
