Yamaha 2.5 throttle cable replacement

Has anyone done this? I have the new cable and have disconnected the old one from each end but can't see how to remove and replace it. It looks like I'm missing a trick!

Thanks.
John
Is this on the 4stroke model? Are you replacing the inner core or the sleeve as well?
Its easiest to do with the tiller arm removed, it's held in with a bolt. I have the workshop manual for the 2.5 4stroke, will pm you a link to it.

I have an old model so it might have changed.
First remove the front lower cover (2 bolts and 2 clip bolts).
Then tie a piece of thin strong string to the end of the cable that attaches to the tiller arm.
The 90 Def bend should just have enough space to wiggle a bit and come out.
Use the string to pull the new cable and outer through the hole.

It was very straight forward.

I took the tiller arm off once and found it an absolute pain to put back in place. And impossible to line up with the cable outer running through it.

Well, we managed it but not a simple task!

It seemed the nobble on the end of the inner wouldn't pull though one way and the thicker outer would only pull out the other way. Solution? Extract inner by pulling it out by way of the handle and the outer from the engine side. (Thank you wife for this suggestion). Then, after a lot of wiggling we reversed the process when putting the new cable in. And this before seeing Dan's post re removing the lower casing.

Thanks both. Mission accomplished!
