Anyone bought or sold a yamaha 15 hp two stroke lately, there are no used ones on eBay or at dealers , just wondering how much to advertise it for, it a two owner 2006 engine with tank standard shaft, used on my Avon rib, I've owned it 5 years. I know the private sector can't buy a two stoke but the commercial sector can, I assume that's why they fetch good money. This is not a plug for an advert as I'm not sure if I will store it for a while.

One of the best mid sized sib engines there is, late, good ones fetch stupid money in the season (over £1500). I would think £1000-£1200 this time of year, try an advert on Rib.net, they love them over there (with good reason).

I agree with Mark's comments Paul. Trying to find these two strokes (10 -15hp) in good condition is a rare find these days, and there is always a lot of demand, so a minimum of £1200 sounds right.

The short shaft ones seem to fetch a slight premium over standard length shafts. Agree with Marks idea of value.

They always seem to attract a lot of interest on Ebay, but the commision may be a non starter for that avenue. I bought one three years ago, paid £815 for a Short Shaft but was a bit lucky because it was in Spain, so maybe not so much demand.

You will not have a problem selling it, if anything they seem to be going up a little.

Best hang on to it then as I paid more than 1200 for it.

VP, don't think it is a problem to sell an engine to a private buyer that was compliant when originally sold. There is no ban as such re 2 strokes, purely current emission levels that 2 strokes find it very difficult to meet. No one is going to test a used engine. There is next to zero enforcement of new engines.

Hello VP,

I bought a brand new... never used 2011 15 HP Yammy 3 months ago. (I am now breaking it in) (The buyer died 3 days after his purchase) I bought it for GBP 1750.

I haven't a clue how much it's worth, but what I would say is that I wish everything in life was as reliable as a yamaha 15hp 2 stroke, the perfect wife would be like a yamaha 15hp 2 Stoke, low maintenance, reliable and goes like billy-o!!

That's made me laugh!!! Yes I'd agree its very simple engine and totally reliable.

a good husband is better than two stroke

Yeah, I'd echo the above comments. We sell them new (if you're commercial) for £2,100. Some good used late engines still change hands for £1500. Given that it's a late engine, that's the price I'd be aiming for.

Ps. Standard shaft and short shaft are the same thing. Yamaha use Standard (short) (S) 15", Long (L) 20", then extra long (XL) 25" and ultra long (U) 30".

Cheers for the reply DAN, at that money I'd let it go as one day I'd like a sports cruiser with a garage and of course a jet rib.
