Yachts easy way to bring in migrants - ex-smuggler

The real issue about trafficking folk on one’s yacht is not whether it’s easy or difficult but that it’s just plain wrong.

I hope that no-one who read the wretched article is actually thinking of topping up their pension with a foray into criminality. And I hope there’s a special place in hell reserved for people traffickers.

Some might argue that people who help those in need go the other way. Old fashioned, I know.
Folk like Oskar Schindler, Nicky Winton, Miep and Jan Gies … my admiration knows no bounds. It was not their ilk that I was thing of when I mentioned people trafficking.

I know, I was highlighting the thinly veiled racism implied by the statement. Usually don’t need to point that out.

I don’t think you think you are, if that helps. I’m absolutely sick of the country being ruined by people ranting about immigration though, so will pick people up on it every time in the hope that the country doesn’t vote to self implode a second time due to stupidity and racism.

Immigration isn’t the problem we have, it’s rich people stealing from poor and blaming immigration.

Thanks. I don’t believe I’ve ever ranted about immigration, which is a wholly different topic to that of people trafficking by which I mean the criminal exploitation of persons less fortunate for financial gain.

As I’ve said, that’s completely distinguishable from helping folks (without seeking reward) who are being persecuted in their own countries.

As for immigration generally, I’m pretty sure I can’t share my thoughts on here save to say that they do not remotely align with those of Mr Farage.

One man’s people trafficking is another man’s helping a refugee. It’s all a matter of outlook. Many refugees aren’t poor so paying to travel is less problematic than getting asylum. Unfortunately our asylum process is purposefully broken for political reasons.
If we ran ferry services the “people trafficking” would end overnight. Then we could process and accept/reject people more formally and miss fewer people between the cracks.
