Is it just my perception or has YW been given over to wall to wall coverage of the America's Cup, an event which does not seem to me to fit happily into the format of a monthly publication which is forced to report on events which have become ancient history by the time the magazine is published?

Thats a brave post for a new user
I wish you a long and contentious relationship with the forum!
Well - they just reported on David Lewis in time!

Re: Yachting World

that is the one
it is for boaters who have hired hands to keep us away from their shiny decks.

you can't expect the mag to ignore an event like that
i saw one of their guys on the tv coverage out there
so he had to write something to justify his trip

YW have always had their head in the clouds. I once wrote to the editor - it must have been six years or so ago - criticising the fact that the boat they had selected as the most significant newcomer to the Southampton Show was the Farr 60 with a price tag then of close to £1 million. I'd be surprised if worldwide sales of the Farr60 were now in double figures but YW seem hooked on this level of boating. The editor printed the letter and his response was along the lines of "I may drive a Mondeo but I might also dream about a Ferrari."

I guess its all about market segmentation. PBO deal with the guys who like to install new headlining in a second hand Centaur they have on their front lawn. YM is about taking your Moody to Brittany or buying your Jeanneau in France and YW is about having sold your TMT company and investing in a neat little 130 footer to take the kids around the world while sponsoring the Americas cup in your spare time.

Yachting World magazine has been published without break for 108 years. It is the greatest sailing magazine in the world and is read around the world.
As for circulation figures, there is a 'newspaper' called The Sun that has a huge circulation, but just look at the kind of people who buy it.
