Maurice Griffiths was editor of YM for 40 odd years. He sailed shoal draft boats round East Anglia. Apart from his most well known books he wrote sailing books with titles like "Yachting on a Small Income". Dylan, you are the modern equivalent of MG and should be the new editor.

Rumour has it that there is a Frenchman in the short list - is this a good idea?

I've looked at a few French yachting mags in The yacht club at Cherbourg and they knocked spots off PBO and YM. The layout was better and the quality of the photos was in a different league, can't comment on the copy as my French isn't up to it.
I just bought a couple of back copies of YM in the market for a pound and too be honest after a quick scan I can't even be bothered to read them.
It's time for a radical change to rejuvenate these titles.

Well, the French may have some strange ideas in some areas of life but one thing they're damn good at is sailing and to be honest I think a Frenchman may be able to inject some much wanted change into YM. I don't think YM is rubbish, it's just not what it could be.

MG knew what he was writing about

the well of my own ignorance is deep and wide

also the KTL philosphy of sailing would not make the advertisers very happy

for those who do not know it is basically to sail now and spend money on repairs and maintenance later

besides I am fully committed to my immensely well respected column in Small Craft Advisor -

a publication which I fear will one day be on the receiving end of "have I got news for you".

Dylan

PS .....

deepest apologies - I made up the stuff about the Frenchman... but you know.... the idea is not without its merits. YM as written by Google translate might be quite entertaining.

In order to balance the ethnic and social mix in the IPC management the new candidate needs to be an Asian woman with a meja studies degree and **** all knowledge of yachts or maritime matters.
Probably best to look for such a candidate with a physical handicap as well.

A rabid feminist will be given preference.

Did you take a sneak at our Diversity presentation?

there can hardly have been a tougher time

Did you take a sneak at our Diversity presentation?

there can hardly have been a tougher time in history for a white, middle aged causacasian male of modest intellectual abilities to make his way in the world

in the lottery of life.... etc etc... but at least I am an Englishman

mind you, I was a very junior producer on Woman's hour in the eighties - one bloke and 22 women - and they were all going on assertiveness training courses paid for by the BBC

I was the one they practiced on first before going onto bigger fish

I now have deep psychological scars and the only way of easing my condition is to go sailing in a small ugly boat and talk to myself and 600 other odd small boat sailors

Paul Gelder retiring?

Must have missed that one!

Reckon I'll knock 5 minutes off my journey to and from the railway station each day now. Almost always get stuck behind Paul and his wife, he is a very careful driver and I'm always running late and have to park too!

Every cloud.... :p

Dylan,

that sounds very suspisciously like my world record breakingly brief marriage to a feminist vegetarian; if we're talking about the same ( vaguely ) female,

A, I wouldn't be surprised,

B, at least that would keep the numbers & threat level down ! :)

I don't care except they should go back and look at some 15 year old editions of the magazine because they were an awful lot better. How do I know this - just done exactly that.
