Does anyone in the Forum have any experience of transporting a yacht (33ft) by road from Portugal (Portimao) back to the UK. Cost & reliability important. Many thanks

Going by the prices quoted last September, from Bouche du Rhone to Southampton, my estimate would be €10-€12K.

If the boat is seaworthy and you can't find the time or face the beat up the Portuguese coast a good delivery skipper and crew will cost you less than half that.

Try Van de Wetering Tel +31 (0)35 582 55 50 Fax +31 (0)35 582 62 24 http://www.vandewetering.nl/gb/index.html

Your boat is pretty small and they do return legs from major ports for reasonable amounts if your not too fussed on the exact date of departure.

I got my Nich 38 brought from South France to Holland for about 1500 pounds.. (It's much cheaper if you only get it brought to Holland )

They're also regarded as one of the better yacht transoporters and so you don't need to be there when they load..

Sounds daft but an friend sold his boat in Spain and the new owners were not upto a passage back to UK, so they had shipped by cargo boat. Can't remember just how much but was a huge amount less than the quotes he got for a road job.

Have you considered having her delivered on her own keel? It's not the easiest of trips, but fine for a Westerly 33. A decent crew won't only deliver her safe and sound, but will provide useful information and feedback. Allow around £2000 + fuel. www.direct-yachts.com
