Our local paper has published some more information on Paul Cook.

He will be missed by his family and by his village.
My condolences to his family.

How easy it would be for this to be any one of us that go out single handed.
I will make me think twice before going forward without clipping on.
I can think of quite a few times that I have nearly gone over.

if i go forward when single handling,i carry a handheld and three flares in my pockets. Clipping on is a pita but i do it,especially when im taking a leak off the stern

when solo i never take a leak over the side but use a bucket in the cockpit, by the time you have your foulies opened up and trying to hold on with one hand and sort things out with the other i feel it is much safer

I notice that the yacht 'Snowfire' was in trouble last year and a photograph taken by a RNLI crew member won a competition:

There is also a reference to a "Snowfire' requiring assistance in the Harwich Lifeboat Station records thougn it may not be the same yacht.

Men going over the side for a leak, and alcohol induced falls account, I'm sure I was told, for the vast majority of MOB's, so use a bucket and dont drink, well not too much anyway,
