Yacht rescue in Mid-Atlantic

Re: Yacht rescue in Mid-Atlantic - tcm

make my calculation based on the chart from dailymail!
the problem struck at about 2000 nm east of caribs and evacuated about 500 nm SE from bermuda!
of course, there are much of missing information but it is hardly to believe, that such an experience couple, will not have a look (or attempt) from outside, once failing to solve the problem from inside!
we all like to learn from this incident and if this happen to us, at sea, to know, what is the best to do for us, based on experience or mistake or how did from the others!
once the story is clear, there will be a lot to learn - what to do, what not to do and etc

Re: Yacht rescue in Mid-Atlantic - tcm

The article in the DM said the alternator had broken - I guess they meant the wind generator which can be seen in the photos - and they had to rely on the solar panel.

Does anybody know if there was anything wrong with engine for generating power for comms?

I also guess the boat didn't have a petrol or diesel generator on board.

It would be good to know how the rudder had become jammed - hopefully, one of our super investigative journos on YM or PBO will be able to dig deeper for a full answer.

Useful learning from experience for all of us.
