Jonic, What sizes and price brackets are predominantly selling from your experience?
Well I'm quite niche, so this reply is based on my sector, good high end cruising yachts around 40-45 feet circa £200-£250k selling to UK cash buyers are very busy, but really everything we have has strong interest at the moment.

Plenty of reasons why demand is strong in lockdown world. Cruising your own sailboat as a holiday option is socially-isolated, doesn't depend on border crossings or public transport, doesn't need cleaning or catering staff etc.

As with demand to move to the country and/or buy a second home.

Compared to the sort of decent Mediterranean hotel or villa holidays, or charters, that middle-income families with interest in the water would typically take, owning a yacht looks relatively more attractive compared to last year.

I have this on authority of a surveyor and a broker. Market is buoyant (boom).

The virus seems to have thrown up a number of things.

One being that we do not all live forever and that family , happier living, having fun and community spirit mean a lot more than the never ending search for consumer heaven. This may be a factor in the demand for things like boats.

Perhaps someone should tell them that they won't be able to afford anything else. :)

It will be interesting to see what happens with boat sales next year. If people are jumping on the boat ownership I wonder how many appreciate the maintenance required to keep the boat in good condition and then it only requires a bad summer to really put people off.

My generation, born around 1965 (or a bit earlier), are the last of the baby boomers. We are 55 this year, nearing retirement, more than a minority likely in a position where a career / business ownership has been lucrative, looking towards the future through Pandemic lenses, taking stock, using the opportunity to buy stuff off the late 1940's born baby boomers. Just a thought.

And that is exactly the demographic coming to see me at the moment (it's also me too(y);))

During lockdown many people have noticed just how much money was being blown on eating out , cofffees, pubs, weekend trips, holidays , fashion clothing etc and have found bank balances growing despite less income. I suspect this has made yachts look more affordable.
