Yacht Designer Mornington Crescent

and for good measure, a Jack Rolfe design.... :D:D:D

and my favourite quote of the series..

Good grief, what have they done there?
Can you tell us a bit more please about this boat and her history?
That must have been an awful lot of work to add a bit more buoyancy at the back end - and what is the purpose of those two beams sticking out the side of the boat?
Keep the rain off when swimming of course.

These are from the Tarrant Amendment circa 1985.. And the very talented Tom Howard....

And for bonus points which one of these three boats hasn't ended up on the bottom of the solent?
1, Barracuda of Tarrant
2, Flying Fish
3, Spring of Tarrant

I think that would be Spring. I know the Flying Fish did, I was nearby with the HM in a launch at the time. Barracuda had an incident with Bembridge Ledge iirc

I have a happy memory of us denying Bob Fisher water and putting Barracuda aground in the Lymington River on a falling tide in a Thursday evening race. We then toasted him through the windows of the, RLymYC. He had written something pretty snippy about us in Y&Y.

edit. On reflection, I think Bob must have been in flying fish on that day, as IIRC barracuda had a lifting keel.

So on what legitimate grounds under the racing rules can you deny a boat water to avoid an obstruction? Did you retire from the race and pay compensation for any damage?

I regret that I know nothing about it. It was something I saw in Wismar many years ago.

Back to the game in hand...and I'd like to invoke the Anatidae rule as first played by Rob Stephens Jr in 1942 (of Sparkman & Stephens) when he found himself landlocked and in 'Nipp' during a protracted game lasting six years with players from all over the world.

I think that I have deduced what was happening. The proud owner of the Dehler split up from his wife and wanted to remarry but the young lady in question didn't enjoy what was supposed to be a romantic trip in his yacht because she got scared every time the boat heeled. In an effort to satisfy both his physical desires as well as his love of sailing, he agreed to convert the boat in a way that would mean that it wouldn't heel. And they lived happily ever after.

Silly boy - he should have sold the Dehler for a good price (rather than turning it into a carbuncle), and bought a trimaran (or a motor boat, or a caravan even) to keep the young lady happy.

It’s not set in stone but

Alan F Hill

Because he gave us not only the Biscay36
But Lodestone,
Brimstone
Touchstone

Which put Mike Peyton afloat
And this produced many a carton chuckle
To be read on the tube
On the misery line
By way of …. Mornington C

( Readers to imagine their own yacht in ANY Peyton cartoon ?)

Have we arrived yet ??
