Does anybody have the contact details of the present owner of the Ocean 60 yacht Dark Horse that had been moored up at Cowes. I have a picture that I would like to send on to him.

pm me with any info.

Many thanks

Was LloydsTSB's flagship, had a splendidly alcoholic weekend on her with an EX -girlfriend a few years ago. She was one of the few Bank employees allowed to skipper Dark Horse.

Superb boat. Girlfriend equally lovely. Must get back to work...

Any more details available? How does she feel about debonair Cornishmen?

Spooky - Im currently sailing in Antigua with an ex-skipper of hers. The current owner is a lady called Lorenza who you can contact c/o UKSA in Cowes. Hope this helps

Why not post the picture on the site for us all to see? She leaves Cowes this summer for Venice (with us).

Jay, next time you see John Coles please ask him when he plans to bring back the binoculars he borrowed. He will know what I mean.

Fair winds

Mike and Lorenza on Dark Horse

Goes to show.... you have to be careful what you say about people and boats on this forum... you never know when they might be there reading what you've said! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I wonder if AchillesHeel or others are reading back over the post to ensure they didn't say the wrong thing! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Yacht Dark Horse

Apropos nothing really, but we crossed wakes a few times in several ways:
- one of my crew on trip to Brazil last year used to skipper her when she was a bank boat
- have spent several weekends anchored next to her in Thorney? channel off Pilsey island (think that's the name) again when a bank boat
- we were in Horta at the same time in 2004 - I think only your crew were aboard then because I recognised her straight away and went round for a chat

and of course, I think that the London Sailing Project have had one built in Guernsey and will be fitting out in Universal on Hamble, though whether she will have the schooner rig I don't know.

When she was on the 'race circuit' on the interbank races and I saw her for the first time, the massive sail which was hoisted between the masts we called a ' gollywobbler', I wonder what it's proper name was?

Re: Yacht Dark Horse

Hi Phil I see you are another schooner owner. Sorry we missed you in 2004. Dark Horse is still unmistakably Lloyds TSB for example all our down wind sails carry the bank logo and we are slowly trying to reduce the amount of green (the Lloyds bank colour before the TSB bit was added) it was everywhere!

There were something like 25 ocean 60s built, DH was number 16 and dates from 1979. They were built by Southern Ocean Shipyard in Poole which I understand stopped trading in the 80s.

Lots of people drop by who have sailed on her and we know of three marriages that had their beginning on board!

No one need be concerned about the content of their post. Lorenza has not worked for the bank nor did she skipper Dark Horse before we bought her.

If I can work out how to post a picture I will put one up.

Regards

mike

Re: Yacht Dark Horse

Aaaahhh those were the days, when banks were banks, Lloyds wasn't Lloyds TSB and it had several decent yachts. The sailing club was an excellent institution and provided affordable sailing to staff, introduced loads of people to sailing, and of course took part in the Tall Ships as well, encouraging loads of youngsters.
Then Lloyds bought the TSB (for some reason that still escapes me) and it all went pear-shaped - they ended up selling all the yachts, I believe.
Oh well, at least I escaped voluntarily with a decent pension before they decided to get rid of me................. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Yacht Dark Horse

The desktop team at Lloyds TSB kept up a very good sailing calendar, and as a supplier I was involved in several of their charity events. Great social events, and good sailing races too
