I have chartered a yacht in the Caribbean in November and am looking for travel insurance. As I will be going outside the 12 mile limits between islands, some insurance companies don't cover the holiday. Can anyone recommend an insurance company which will cover this at a reasonable price?

We had similar problem,
Most Travel insurance will not cover for living aboard a yacht, only in hotels.
We bought a years travel insurance to include yacht chartering through our yacht broker.
Can't remember which one though. Try Pantenious (spelling !) or St Margarets

While I was living in UK, I used Kingfisher Travel Insurance. IIRC, it was £85 for the family for the year. Don't recall any exclusions, so maybe you can look into it.

TomKat - firstly, check your paperwork from your charter company; most, like the Moorings, require a "security" insurance fee and have specific detail or exclusions noted in their contract. My Moorings charter paperwork make NO mention of distance limitations from shore as a parameter. Secondly, my travel ins policy is from Bishop Skinner (here in the UK) and it has a provision for yacht charter, as long as you take the charterer's ins too, the only distance parameter is "up to 150 miles in total distance" for races. FYI, this policy is endorsed by the RYA.

BTW, I'm chartering out of St. Lucia 25 Nov-2 Dec; probably cruising down to Bequa & back ... where will you be, and when?

Thanks for the advice. I am going to go with the charter company insurance through Cosmos as it does not have a distance offshore limit. Dogtag has a 12 mile offshore limit as does most I have found on the internet, which is why I was asking the question. The best I can get with Cosmos is £49 per person and half price for under 16s.

Stoicwarrior - I wil be cruising between Antigua and Guadaloupe from 27th Oct to 10th Nov, I will not be in your area. I sailed the Grenadines in 2004 and enjoyed Bequia very much.

Best wishes, Tomkat, I did Guad some years ago and loved it; and good luck with any late season storms ... as you well know, the last few years have seen an extension of the hurricane season well into the late autumn ... must say that I got smacked good by one in early Dec 2003 while up in the BVI. I still go each Dec but I'm afraid I now leave the Leewards alone and stay well south, especially when one must book these things so far in advance.
