Over the last few years we have seen some Yacht Brokers cease Trading , some locked up for a £210 000 VAT fraud, others convicted of flashing while drinking champagne and snorting drugs.

Of course this is really good news in that only good honourable Yacht Brokers are left trading.

Do you now feel more or less comfortable at allowing a Yacht Broker to handle your cash (proceeds of your boat for example).

in the midst of it all just now and today sent off a large chunk of cash to my broker in France.
Ordinarily ,if I was advising a client, I would probably have urged more caution but I have got to know this guy over a year or so and I feel confident enough in our reationship to trust him.
Now I could be wrong and indeed tempting fate by writing this but you can only do so much diligence on someone and his business, which I have done. The accounts are secure and appear bona fide.
In situations like this experience tells me to trust someone who has worked hard over the last year or so to get me a good dealand who leaves a good feeling when you meet him and his wife.
Not often you trust people these days but soemtimes it just comes down to that........and the fact that I know where he lives!!

.

OK, we both now know of one in that category, so who are the others?

Just out of interest how did you come across what ever his name is who was the flasher, were you there?;)

Where is the option for. 'I'm more comfortable than I was but would never trust anyone (except perhaps my partner) with a significant amount of my money, regardless of profession, as I have a modicum of common sense and intelligence'?

PMSL!

Thanks Daka, another broker here, still in business and with many happy customers buying first, secnd and third boats from us.
I am sure I have some grumpy ones too, but we do try very hard to please everyone.

With all that thanks aside, is anyone else finding this whole thing a tad dull now though?

Daka tell us.

Is there anyone in the marine industry that you do like or trust?

Of late you have posted about brokers more than anything else, it's a good job we have good brokers around otherwise the industry would not survive.

Soon you will be posting about marine engineers!

As said in an earlier post" not that ****e again"

+1

What a tiresome guy you are, is this all you are going to ever post about, you will see from the answers most people feel the same, we need some positives across the industry we dont need knockers, of course there are con men out there in very walk of life probably including line of work you are involved in, it must be the same as every other industry including possibly the legal profession and maybe the police force, but as with the boating industry the numbers are very small, but you really need to wind your neck in and get a life, go post somewhere else.

it does make me wonder - which broker would sell daka's boat? perhaps, in time honoured fashion, we should have a poll?

o yes - i'm eager to get another mark
o no - life's too short

:)

Wow, more posts than votes :eek:
What's matter with you guys, if you stumble accros an uninteresting post just ignore it, there is no need to be so obnoxious !
If you overhear a conversation in a pub that you don't find interesting do you barge in and tell a group of strangers you find their conversation boring :rolleyes:
as to weighted poll, please issue your own !

The sole purpose of this poll was to indicate that I was not
Alone in my concerns that a yacht broker , director of fair line Dorset ltd legged it with 210 grand, apparently I was the only one who thought it a concern .

Now those that thought it was only me can see the poll results and make their own mind up.

I really don't understand why my posts are seen as an attack on reputable brokers, that's just crazy.
My only gripe is that they don't have a central clients account operated by yacht brokers association which would ilininate the temptation of a broker going through a bad patch legging it with the cash.
