Someone's weekend has got off to a bad start (and caused travel delays for hundreds of people) : http://www.iwcp.co.uk/news/news/ferry-involved-in-yacht-collision-49542.aspx
So the ferry had to return to port and disembark all passengers? FFS, Red Funnel, lets make a big fuss about this shall we?
Sounds like a good excuse to start weather delays on a marginal weather day for the ferries...
Or to secure the vessel for MCA/MAIB investigation or maybe to inspect for watertight integrity, structural damage, etc.
PW
.The likely hood of damage to the ferry may be slight.
The Ferry Company, MAIB, MCA and possibly police and other agencies will all be investigating.
The Crew's will be shaken. And should be taken out of service until debriefed and post incident council.
It is possible after an incident, Crew could be less attentive or aware due to post incident stress and have further incident. Not necessarily with another vessel. Perhaps just a work place injury on board.
It would take the ferry company some time to replace the deck crew.
The ships systems particularly navigation, collision avoidance, control and propulsion have to be checked and found operational before it can go back into service.

You're being ironic right?

Total over reaction as usual. You sure it wasn't a terrorist related incident !!!
The report says there was no serious damage to the yacht. That being the case, the impact must have been trivial - as Galadriel said, on a choppy day the ferry probably makes a firmer contact with its berth. It's absurd to suggest that the navigation or propulsion systems may have been damaged.
