Well maybe. Sorry I didn’t know the details but he doesn’t seem to be a registered user any more.
Mike, I think that’s exactly what happened. He and the forum admin fell out big time iirc.I don't think thats correct.
I think that there are probably other reasons that he doesn't post any more.
The search facility is pretty carp on this forum since the upgrade but I think most of it is still there if you can find it.
Try searching using Google.
To do that you enter your search in a Google search page and then enter "site: forums.ybw.com" (no qoutes)
This will force Google to search only in forums.ybw.com and not out on the rest of the web.
Sometime finds stuff that the in forum search can't find.
I've found the relevant JFM post. It is here

Mike, I think that’s exactly what happened. He and the forum admin fell out big time iirc.
It stems from a boat show when a certain ex-employee of YBW got above his station in said show and JFM witnessed it. Comments were made on here and JFM's comments were deleted in favor of Ex-employee. HUGE MISTAKE YBW.Mike, I think that’s exactly what happened. He and the forum admin fell out big time iirc.
Thanks John,Here’s the email I sent to Chris , and his reply sent the following morning.
Hi Chris
I’m longjohnsilver from the YBW forum. As requested I’m contacting you.
I received a quote from you on November 24th with a premium of £1507-62. My renewal with Y is £899-14. A quote from another broker, also with Navigators and General came in at £736-42, less than 50% of the same premium from your company!
I look forward to receiving your explanation, and I trust you will be happy for me to share your reply on the YBW forum.
Best regards

Good Morning John,
I hope this finds you well.
Following on from our correspondce of last night, I have now looked in to this and I have a few comments / queries if that is okay.
1. I note you purchased the boat in xxxx and you have not made a claim in the past 5 years. Our online enquiry forms has the following: -
Claim History
Please provide details of any claims you've had in the last 5 years:
Number of years NCB (no claims bonus) enitlement (?) The question mark when hovered over states 'Your insurer may not currently provide you with a no claims bonus. We may be able to apply a discount for long term claim free ownership.'
If you have been insured claim free for the last 5 years, then we can offer you 20% No Claims Bonus
2. You third party liability limit on your current policy is £3,000,000. Our quote provided £5,000,000.
3. Our excess was £500, whereas your current policy is based on a £700 excess. We can offer a discount if you opt for a higher excess. This is usually done at 10% discount for double the excess.
As a side comment, I note you paid £xxxxxx for the vessel back in 2006. Your vessel sum insured is presently £1500 less. Does this reflect the current market value of the boat? I would suggest it might be worth reviewing this come next renewal, as ultimately a lower sum insured means a lower premium.
I very much hope this helps clarify things, but remain at your disposal should you have any further queries.
Kind regards
Chris McGowan

The other quote I mention in my email has exactly the same cover and excess as the quote from Topsail. Unfortunately he didn’t answer my question as to the huge disparity in premiums.
Hi Gary,A question in very simple words, with a yes or no answer: If I renew with Y now, a few weeks before my policy runs out, will they have to give me the same contract, and be obliged to honour my existing cover, or not?
1) Yes they must.
2)No they can feck me about as they see fit.
Ok thanks, I will ring Claire later.Hi Gary,
If you are in receipt of your renewal terms, then yes this will be honoured.
I welcome any other queries in email - chris@topsailinsurance.com
This sounds very much that the policy terms will change then.Hi Gary,
If you are in receipt of your renewal terms, then yes this will be honoured.
I welcome any other queries in email - chris@topsailinsurance.com
I've read the terms and conditions of the TopSail insurance and they look very similar to the Y terms. There's nothing onerous jumping out at me (e.g. galvanic corrosion, anchoring exclusions, etc). This sounds very much that the policy terms will change then.
Can you confirm that any policy that we now have can be renewed under the same terms at the next renewal?
It’s this lack of ambiguity I like about the “current “N+G .Are you sure Pete Amlins unattended @ anchor is clear and un refutable?I've read the terms and conditions of the TopSail insurance and they look very similar to the Y terms. There's nothing onerous jumping out at me (e.g. galvanic corrosion, anchoring exclusions, etc).
Going forward, these policies will be underwritten by Navigator's and General (using their rate tables I assume) so I don't understand why you expect the terms to be identical to those of Y (whose policies were underwritten by Amlin).
For what it's worth, I ran an online quote and the premium for a new (N&G backed) policy was comparable to my current Y (Amlin backed) policy.
I did have one query that I emailed Chris about and he has responded promptly and answered my question.
So all seems to be good to me.
Oh yes that's exactly right @MrB.It stems from a boat show when a certain ex-employee of YBW got above his station in said show and JFM witnessed it. Comments were made on here and JFM's comments were deleted in favor of Ex-employee. HUGE MISTAKE YBW.
Thats because I want the same policy terms that I already enjoy.I don't understand why you expect the terms to be identical to those of Y (whose policies were underwritten by Amlin).
This has been debated to death and I have no intention of debating it any further. As I said above, I'm quite happy with the Amlin and topsail wordings.Forums crashing today !
A while back I could not find anything in the Amlins specifically mentioning the unattended @ anchor so I contacted ( well via the broker ).
what came back was they would refute a claim if it was out of line of sight and un returnable with 1/2 hr .
Perhaps the expectation is it’s never left unattended @ anchor ?Dunno ?
With no crew and mostly family + friends there are times when it will left unattended, more so with a couple boating .So for me that’s an important little nuance.Expect it is for the majority on here as well .
A the time folks on here played the all risks card telling the forum unattended @ anchor would be covered by that .
They all have “ all risks “ mentioned , and exclusions .
The wisdom by the Amlin fanboys was if it’s not in exclusions it’s covered .
Most on here are NOT lawyers and it seemed to me because of typical Med usage patterns you could with Amlins end up in a refute situation if you went ashore for a meal , a walk , shopping or what ever and the boat was not there when you returned .
Argument was it’s not mentioned in the exclusions I get that but surley it’s better mentioned in what’s included/ covered to remove any doubt I would have thought ?
I wanted something a bit more specific which my broker found .
Ok it’s “recognised anchorages and sheltered bays “ but see your chart and anchor in them then go ashore .
It’s in writing with N+G .
Any how Amlins ( then ) raised the refute Spector but only after I enquired.
I think you'll be disappointed (Amlin were running an underwriting loss I believe) but no harm in trying I suppose.Thats because I want the same policy terms that I already enjoy.
You might be but ......This has been debated to death and I have no intention of debating it any further. As I said above, I'm quite happy with the Amlin and topsail wordings.
