This would suggest that it's extremely surprising that damage was caused merely by putting a flag on-board a mere 250 boats So is the OP asserting deliberate sabotage, or maybe his boat is unusually fragile?

BTW, I'm local as well (TR postcode, boat in the Fal) and I've not heard of any boats being damaged by XR.

Your maths is good but you haven’t allowed for the inexperienced, how many times have you had to tell people not to use stanchions or guard wires as a means of hauling themselves onboard. In the dark with a bit of chop I hope none of my gps antennae haven’t been trodden on. In the dark in an environment like a boat deck they were very lucky nobody got hurt. I hope when I can eventually get out to my boat that if they have invaded me they have used waterproof ink and I haven’t had my sails stained, the weather here has been a bit bouncy.

Where’s DFL 1010 who knows of these damaged yachts?
He said he’s spoken to several local boat owners who have had damage I would like to know who’s boat have in fact been damaged.
 
He also says that he has 'seen the damage'. Apparently, you have to take his word for it, otherwise you are some sort of loony conspiracy theorist......

If we had a few actual details that would help. Theres a lot of people out there claiming someone hurt them, damaged their property etc without there being any substance to it other than their disgruntlement. Rather unlike global warming and habitat degradation when there is overwhelming evidence of something going awry.

I’m not going to accuse him of bending the truth as no doubt someone had informed him that damage to their yacht had been done.
But there’s no substance at the moment as to who’s boat it’s effected.
 
Not going to name names on a public forum: it's not my place to do so.

I do dislike being accused of lying, and I dislike more the concept that I'm presumed guilty and have to prove my innnocence. However, that's the internet for you. And, as I say, if I were to post an image of damage, then I'd no doubt be asked to prove that that damage was caused by this action: a pretty hard task.
So, believe me, don't believe me; fill your boots.


That said, I return to my original question: what should the reply to those whose boats were damaged be? 'Terribly sorry, but for the greater good and all that'? That's fine I guess. 'Terribly sorry, shouldn't have happened, how can we sort it out'? OK, but tricky for a decentralised organisation like XR. 'Tough'? Well, at least it's a position I suppose.


And, since you didn't ask, a friend of mine did contact XR about the damage he had. Their response was quite disappointing: almost politician levels of words without substance. It more or less amounted to 'sorry to hear that, but since we're not an organisation proper we don't control what people do in our name'.

C'est la vie.

If these people had put ' vote for X political party ' stickers on boats, cars or houses would that be acceptable ?

This is using - and trespassing on - a persons' property to suggest and advertise they agree with a political movement without their consent or their views being sought, and totally unacceptable - why else did they do it at night ?

I’m not condoning their actions as I’d be annoyed also. What I’m trying to find out from one of the forumites is the supposed damage. I’m a local and heard of no damage what so ever. The chap on here saying there has been damage has spoken to the supposed victims of these pirates but won’t or can’t I suspect forward and evidence what so ever.
 
I don't see why you are surprised as any damage involves the identity of boats and maybe owners, could well be an insurance or even police case in the unlikely event plod could get off their chairs - if I knew of such damage I wouldn't publish details either and if my boat was victim I'd appreciate discretion.

FAir enough. That’s your view, but if my boat was damaged I’d want as many knowing just in case someone had seen it. A bit like mentioning what goods had been stolen so others can look out for it.
I am surprised that being a local I’ve not heard though. Usually news like that travels like like the wind.

To be Gammon of the Week is to make yourself as evolutionary and culturally irrelevant. Are you really sure you want that label? I wouldnt.

No it doesn't. We have not even beeen told what the alleged damage was. Bent stanchions? Damaged aerials on the pushpit rail? Fender step fallen in the water? A couple of details like that would have made DF118's (or whatever his catchy handle is) post seem a little more convincing, wouldn't it?

As it is, I simply don't believe him.
