XP - SP2 - ......n.b.

My laptop is just sitting here with the wi/fi card in and I can see it playing with itself even though I have not bothered to open ie. Now that is a wee bit scary and impressive both at the same time!!!
This windows update file I found still keeps adding bits and doing other things - so I guess that's the intelligent bit.
Good job it dont have to relie on me!!!

Might be worth running a virus check, you could have a trojan running that's talking back to base..........

I've just done some research on this link, according to the Microsoft download centre here this is the network install package, for installation on multiple machines across a network. It also says not to install this on one PC and that a smaller more appropriate download will be made available later on Windows update.

Have you installed this (network install) version and, if so, how did it go???

Installed it - more or less hassle-free.

When booting for the first time, it takes AGES (12 mins on my PC - Athlon 1GHz + 512 MB RAM). Then it got stuck in an infinite loop caused by out of date graphics driver. Booted in safe mode, uninstalled driver, went to nVidia website, got latest one; and now runs OK as before.

Noticed only minor changes so far: MS firewall has been "beefed up", more wireless network options, newer MediaPlayer,...

Or the manual update available from 25 August (I assume that is USA time) - join the rush /forums/images/icons/smile.gif.

The auto download works far better, as it works in the background, and doesn't take up much bandwidth. V important to me as a dial up user.

If anyones does try to download SP2 on dialup, I can recomment Fresh Download, as a software package that will download software across multiple connections and will take up again where you left off if your dial up disconnects every 2 hours or so, but will take up more bandwidth than the MS auto download, so will slow down other internet activity

Yes I did have in mind broadband users, and especially important if your dial up and voice are on the same line - could be engaged for other callers for quite a while otherwise.
