I have put together a website about my journey around our amazing 20,000 mile long coastline -
and I learned about its length from here rather than a map

The website will require a lot of patience from those afflicted with lousy bandwidth - but then you probably live in as nice place without too many close neighbours.

If you have fat pipes it will run like a top

It was built by Martin Roberts who I filmed in his Bolger Micro

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaqfMkyBhGo

I have put a short video I made for a film competition on the website - it is available in four different formats - two for pcs, one for a mac and a fourth for an ipod

one of them is a massive 500mb for a 3 minute film - the one for the ipod is only 27mb.

For those of you with fat pipes size of files does not matter.

Any feedback from mac fanatics on the mov would be great.

Martin did an astonishing job and was really easy to work with -I told him what I wanted and he made it happen - so fat it was wonderful

so if any of you guys are running businesses with out of date websites.... why not give the work to a fellow sailor

Serious feed back gratefully received either here, by Pm or my email is on the end of every video.

Trolls - stay in your caves.

You're right Dylan, I do live in a lovely spot (despite recent barn conversions & related Chelsea tractor invasion). But my MAX(!) B/W is 512K yes, that's HALF a Meg. I don't do videos - a 5 min one can last 20 mins & I often fall asleep waiting.

Good luck to those of you with decent B/W

downloading overnight

I leave mine downloading while I am in bed - turn off the screen and the speakers to reduce the power consumption - also I get more bandwidth at night

try downloading one and then watch it in the morning

- you might be surprised at how good it looks

let me know if it works

There are 4 things you can do to get more out of your internet connection:

1. Use a plug-in like flashblock for firefox to cut out unnecessary flash files, these are all over the place including the YBW site.

2. Use an accelerator like propel accelerator to reduce the quantity of download.

3. Use a fast downloader like Flashget, this will increase the speed of the download

4. Try to download at low traffic times ie the small wee hours when most folk are abed!

Dylan's HD movies are well worth the effort. I have managed to get the full cream version here in the jungle of Central America via a dongle! it took a little while but was truly worth the effort.

Keep them coming Dylan.

I'm currently in two-tin-cans-and-electric-string territory so shall await my return to fibre-optic heaven before viewing, but a shame about Paypal, a nasty organisation from which I recently resigned in protest over heinous changes to its already unfair terms and conditions.

any suggestions

Paypal has been fine with us so far... but if you have any suggestions about alternatives I am all ears
