Would you recomend your winter marina to others?

Yes - good rates if booked in advance, several marinas/boatyards to choose from, good labour rates, great expertise and skilled workforce - island does have some issues but is below the hurricane belt, has great people, good air links, lots of nature, good cruising community, good social scene, lots of good rum, doubles, tahinis, potatoe pies, Jesse James, oil and gas..........need more info?

Alas 393 murders this year......so far, tho.....

Licata, Sicily.
Very new marina; shower blocks/laundry/cafe all less than 5 mins walk away. Very clean overall. Helpful friendly staff.
Large live aboard community for those inclined to get involved in activities and get togethers.
Decent supermarket with several clothes shops etc in the mall just behind marina. Brilliant gym, 15 mins cycle ride away.
The main town is not big but offers pretty much everything you could need and everything is within walking distance.
Well sheltered.
Airport further away but there's a direct bus which costs a mere 9,50€ so I'm told, we've got a share in a hire car so not an issue.
Price identical to Ragusa with the extra month thrown in.
Good climate.
Would I recommend it? Wholeheartedly yes for the majority of reasons above stated :)

What changed your mind?!!
I'm still happy with Cartagena. I saw strong winds fcst for tonight and emailed the office to check if any marineros on duty over Xmas.
To my surprise they answered immediately, and reassured me there'd be no break in cover!
Happy stormy Christmas everybody.

What changed your mind?!!y.

Stand by my remarks regarding the marina and subsequent review on TripAdvisor. The atmosphere was not one in which we were prepared to spend nigh on 6 months, some very unhappy campers there. Cracking laid back crowd of cruisers here in Ragusa, we're having a blast and was well worth the cost and hassle of moving :)

Merry Christmas to one and all!

This year we are in Ragusa over the winter.
There are things that can be improved but on the whole I would give it 8/10.
Good live aboard community, plenty to do, good shops, and helpful friendly marina staff.
Well sheltered from swell.
New airport opened nearby with Ryan air to Stansted and the marina will pay for a taxi.
The price is excellent.
Still sunning ourselves.
Would I recommend it to anyone else for winter?
Wholeheartedly yes.

Would you recommend your marina?

What's winter? And why would we need a marina??

Tongue in cheek Mark. Happy New Year to you Angie and the boys!

I have to say that Ragusa is just getting better and better for us.
Christmas was amazing and I believe we had a blinding New Years Eve. I know I went to the party and woke up in my bed but the in between bits a a bit hazy.
It is the people who make a marina and I have to say that we have so many wonderful people here who just make life so special and this cruising life the right choice for us.
Sam Tabbs and Mr Tabbs even brought us pancakes for breakfast yesterday.
Life can be good but at the moment life does not get better.
Most of the people here are of the same opinion and are already booking in for next year as prices are staying the same as this year.
Until the Greek thing is sorted we will be doing the same.
I would suggest that next year the marina will be full if the Greek tax comes in but whatever.. we know that winter will be something to look forward to.
Still 8/10 for the haul out prices and the distance to the toilets although now they can be easily found but the trail of brown accidents in trying to get there.
We wish everyone an wonderful New Year.

Ragusa Marina

Nostrodamus,

Your kind guidance please. I am in touch with the marina office at Ragusa and they have offerred me berth L 11 for next winter.

What say you? I would be greatful for your opinion on:
Is this location in the marina okay bearing in mind prevailing wind, surge, sheleter and, I gather an issue this year, the walk to the facilities?
Should I request a change?
I am 13.6 x 4.9 x 2.0 sloop.
Best wishes to you for 2014.

Charles,
pontoon L is the pontoon one in from us and is in a wide isle with plenty of manoeuvring room to get in. Having said that the staff here will always meet you and help you in with their dinghies and take your lines. There are also two lazy lines for each berth so you will always be secure. The marinas working channel is 74 and someone will always answer.
Because of the lay out of the marina there is no real surge and shelter is good. If you ask they will send you a plan or it should be on the website.
The prevailing wind tends to come from the land so having your stern facing out to sea tends to be best as it is more sheltered from the wind, the sun comes into your cockpit in the morning and if you have solar panels on the rear they work best.
I am not sure but if you are going in stern too you may be the wrong way round.
The facilities are the biggest problem as they are too far away from everyone but most people here have bikes or those cheap push scooters. it only takes a couple of minutes but is a pain to get there. The showers are good, powerful and hot.
You are the second person I heard of booking in yesterday who is not already in the marina. Most of us who are here are coming back next year as we have loved the liveaboard life here this year. So many of us, very friendly and always something to do. It could well get very full next year.
Hope that helps.. looking forward to seeing you.
Any other questions just ask as there are several of us here on the forums who can hopefully answer your questions.

Cardo

Because I am spending the winter in China my Email with/from the marina has been seamless (I work they sleep and vice versa).

My contact was - Porto Turistico Marina di ragusa [info@portoturisticomarinadiragusa.it].

Very business like and prompt correspondence.

Best wishes

usually answer strait away and they speak perfect English. I am told that the girls there are stunning but I have never noticed of course.
I did tell them to ignore any marina requests from Cardo though...
Will be good to see you again... well Tree anyway!
