Would you have heating in your boat?

Hi guys just purchased a Merry Fisher 795 today, decided to buy a bigger house and small boat, rather than a flat and a big boat lol!....It doesn't have any heating, Ive been quoted £2500 for diesel heating, which will run completely separate to the rest of the boat. Has anybody done this and would they recommend. Thankyou

Must admit I have a eberspacher heater in our Leader, it's not strictly necessary but lovely when you want to warm up a bit, although I'm sure you can get one fitted for less than 2.5k.

Our boat had an old diesel heater that I won't be replacing. My reasons are, no matter what country of origin they're from, I won't sleep easy if left on all night. And as above, if its so cold I need a heater, I'll be in a marina plugged into shore power. We have got a matrix heater that works the same way as a car heater, ie off the engine cooling system, so we can have heat while underway.

Not overnight or unattended… not at that cost. You’ll get it cheaper than that, I’d think.

Different boat but similar size. The answer is to do your research and fit one yourself as a large chunk of that price is labour cost. I fitted an Eberspacher D2 for £800. If you buy a copy (often called a Chinaspacher) you could do it for £300.

DIY is fine for an experienced owner. The OP is relatively new to boating. I totally disagree with the suggestion of DIY in her case, the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning awaits the inept installer.

It's a nice to have item and much appreciated on those occasions when the weather has caught us out during the unreliable British summer. On our first boat I recall abandoning a holiday on board in May because we did not have heating .
On our present boat the heater was already fitted but would have been added if it had not been already in place.

Thanks Martyn, im a big baby I hate the cold, and I would feel exactly the same way I think, I would imagine you just wouldn't feel cold but you would feel damp as well......
