Hope it will work out
We've just paid over the money for a "project" Sunsail boat. Saw plenty of bodges on our trip out to see the boat and we found nearly 50 functional issues plus any number of cosmetic ones. None on those issues stopped us going for a trial sail, although a couple of them made it awkward to use the sails.
Surveyor report revealed nothing that we hadn't already spotted - so no structural issues. The rest was negotiating a low price even lower and agreeing the (as it happened) 22 "must fix" problems. We've been cleaning the sh*t out of the boat over the last two weeks and getting the tech guys back again and again until the 22 jobs were done properly.
Looking forward to exploring the Croatian coast over the next year whilst we continue to work on the project. I'm now an expert on shower drains and winch line peelers, but need to do some serious studying on gelcoat filling.
Hope it works out, but we wouldn't have stood a hope of even buying a boat 10 feet smaller unless it was ex-charter and a project. We'll probably spend 20k or so over the next 3 years, depending on need and money available - but will have a boat to sail during those years. And I like the lack of electronics.
