Many are low hours but not all. We manage to do about 50-70 hrs per year which is pretty average in most places but very high for Windermere

Plenty of boats stretch their legs on a regular basis. They just know where and when to do it.

My current boat was bought new and spent a few years on a fresh water lake.
Then went to Ireland to another fresh water system.
Then went to salt water for 2 years.
Now back on fresh water for the past 5 years.
Mother of christ, you can tell she hasn't spent long in salt water. No rust etc... honestly no rust at all in the engine bay and just a general 'clean' feeling on the boat.
And to answer your question, yes the engines get used! (2 x KAD300) - We warm her up for about 10 mins at about 1500RPM and then we're on the plane. For about 5 mins of every 60 mins running we run WOT (3900RPM @ 35knots)
Old pics of the engine room which were taken when I bought her 5 years ago before giving a proper clean, she's actually cleaner right now (ignore the dirty coolant header tank... cleaned it out 5 years ago and it remains clean)
