It is all BarryH's fault, he got me thinking again! Ages ago I spotted a damaged aquastar up for sale on a couple of web sites, then one day it popped up on ebay so I bit and asked for more info, I was still a little sceptical and it never sold. Ebay listing was : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2495038050

I got a couple more pics and info stating that the boat was grounded damaging one side of the hull and sinking the boat, it has since had the hull repaired and the engines removed and rebuilt. It looks like that is where the work stopped. It needs a total elictrical and internal refit, huge job I guess but I like these boats and keep feeling tempted to look into it some more. Between us we have a good mechanical and practicle ability, as well as a friendy boat builder.

My question as I said is, would we be off our heads??? Would have no intention of paying anything like the asking price, or am I wrong on that too?

Yes, walk away...

It's a total unknown. What was the real level of hull damage? Was it properly repaired, or just patched up? There are loads of these boats around, why punish yourself with what will probably be a bottomless pit into which you'll be pouring money?

All the same advice that Barry was given really. Also read the threads that Poter posted about his boat Shady on scuttlebutt forum after this weeks storms badly damaged his yacht.

You need to realise that you will probably end up spending you weekends/evening etc for the next 3x long as you think it will actually need to complete

If you keep thinking about this boat, it may be worth getting a really thorough survey done, just to help make the decision. After all it may help to banish the dreaded "I wish I had done that" /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

All good points thanks, as I said I had ruled it out as another mad cap idea but I blame Barry!!!

I have another slightly less mad cap, mad cap plan as a back up though!!! I am friendly with the family that run Caley cruisers (the main and I think by far the beast boat hire company on the caledonian canal). they a large fleet of boats with everything from princess 32's right up to a couple of birchwoods and self completed broom type hulls. They are about to decomission some Princess 30DS' which I love, it was a trip on one of them that got me hooked on boating!

I know they are old now but I think they still look realy good, interior wise they are very dated but I think I could improve on that. It would need a new engine/engines and a re fit and extarnal re finish but would be cheap!

Alas another pipe dream I fear, but at least this one would be on a smaller cheaper scale and more of a known quantity!
