The world's biggest container ship (for now)
Is due into Felixstowe on the 17th December
Let's hope it's not windy.

These ships are now so big that they will need the help of the tugs to make the turn at Landguard.
Tugs will be travelling and pulling at a distance of 80m from the ship.
So, with a beam of 58m and a tug 80m from the boat these ships will demand ALL of the deep water channel so best keep clear.
The chief pilot warns that with 1/5 Million tonnes weight, 10,888m2 windage and up to 700 tonnes pull from the current these ships cannot give way to us.

Perhaps I'm missing something but according to your link the ship is currently in the South China Sea. Impressive numbers, but surely not fast enough to get to UK in 5 days??

I was originally told that it was due in January
So to get an accurate (!) date - I looked up it's schedule which says Felixstowe 17th - 19th Dec
and, with no further thought I just copied the dates.

It's is only 1m longer than the Majestic Maersk which has been in to Felixstowe before so I doubt if it will be that much of a problem.

It could only be an improvement. Will sort out the oneway system rather well.

As I type this, AIS show's that she's nearly at Felixstowe
so I'm a little more confident that she'll arrive on the 7th Jan.
She reports a draft of 15.7m so must be carrying quite a load.

Yep - ETA on Vessel Finder of 10:00 seems a bit unrealistic now. The local radio's 13:00 may just be right.....
