world radio?

BBC World Service is terrific , if you want to find out about what's going on in Africa... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

You can get all the BBC etc Radio and TV in the south of France with a one metre dish and a Maplin 12v 28E satellite receiver.

Assuming reasonable wave free water and the boat is tied hard against a wall or pontoon once it locks on it will give a good picture and audio service 99% of the time. Serious livaboards mount it on the pontoon.

There is also WorldSpace in Greece and Turkey to get BBC world service eastern beam which is more European oriented.

For serious listening the nasa hf3 is hard to beat. It covers all long, medium and short wave frequecies. If you have a laptop you can also get weatherfax and the radiotelex weather service.
Go onto BBC world service to see some of the excellent services they broadcast on short wave.

Do you think the world service directed to Africa should NOT be about Africa ??? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

In fact it also has excellent world news/current affairs programmes. Some lifted from radio 4. Radio 4 seems very parochial by comparison, I just wish there wasn't so much damned UK soccer.
