We're new to the Solent and thinking of sailing over to Wootton Creek for lunch. We've read that you can anchor there, but it dries out - does anyone know at what point in the tide you can access the anchorage?

It dries out big-time, you're probably ok at about HW+/-2 hours depending on draught. You can sit alongside the RVYC pontoon in (or on) soft mud. The Royal Victoria Yacht club is very friendly (I'm not usually a fan of yacht clubs) and there are some pictures and telephone numbers here. There seemed to be a lot of moorings, ask advice loaclly before planning to anchor.

Depending how much your draught is ? Wooton is good only on a spring tide for lunch, as stated it dries.

Thanks Dave - looks like we'll have to give it a miss this time as the tides aren't right, but I'll call ahead next time.

Nobody mentioned the ferry! Either moor in the outer area by the club and enjoy the ferry wash and tannoy or go further up the harbour and enjoy the mud.
